Out of numerous blogs
on TEFL, I would like to review an interesting blog by Alex Case. In this
review, you will read my evaluation in terms of four different criteria: organization and layout, content and features, ease of use and navigation, and target audience.
1. Organisation and
Layout
This blog has a clear
and consistent organization and layout. The articles are well-organized and
easy to read as they are separated into sections and subheadings. Besides, the
use of formatting like bullet points and lists makes it more scannable. But, it
would be better if it includes more white spaces as the layout of the different
articles seems clumsy and the titles are sometimes difficult to differentiate
from one another. There are some proper uses of typography, font and size that
makes the text easy for the reader to read. It would, however, be better if
there are more visual elements related with the content to make the content
more engaging. Lastly, trying to access the blogs in different devices, I find
that it has a responsive design and it works well on almost different screen
sizes.
2. Content and
Features
In terms of content, I
think that there relevant to the main topic of the blog and it provides some
value to the reader who are supposed to be teachers or educators in the field
of English language teaching. Although some of the contents still need to be
improved to be engaging and interesting, it can be seen that most of them are
well-written and free of errors.
In terms of features,
I find that there are some special features Special features like a search bar,
a newsletter subscription button, a comment box, arrangement of key words in
word clouds.
3. Ease of Use and
Navigation
It has a clear
navigation menu at the top of the page and it is easy to navigate to the
relevant articles. The labels and titles on the blog are also clear and
concise. I also find that it has a kind of logical structure in presenting the
hierarchy of the information, with the most recent content at the top, and the
later one lower down.
4. Target Audience
It can be seen that it
is mainly for English langauge teachers, and it provides some teaching tips and
useful classroom materials to them. Although there are some comments by several
readers, they are not quite engaging as most of the comments are just questions
about some technical error they have and not related with the content.
Overall, although there are some things that still
need to be improved, I would say that this blog is a good one.
